Sound Good on Podcasts with an Audio-Technica ATR2100 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone for $59.95 Shipped

We're often asked for recommendations on good portable microphones which can be used to record podcasts or for voice chat. One of the best for the money is the Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone, available on Amazon for $59.95 with free shipping.

Since this is a cardioid dynamic microphone, it's best for use by a single person talking directly into it, as opposed to other mics which are more designed for recording an entire room. The easiest way to hook it up to a computer is using the built-in USB connection, which will make this mic show up as another sound card, similar to many headset mics. Plug a pair of headphones into the mic to hear how you sound. It can also be connected to a mixer using the standard XLR jack. If you're considering recording a submission for one of our podcasts, or just want to make yours sound better, this is an affordable way to go.
