Freedom scientific has recently released an update to their popular screen reading solution JAWS which adds new functionality and simplifies some interactions.
- When opening an inaccessible pdf, JAWS now proactively asks users whether they wish to perform OCR on the document before it is displayed. Previously, the apparently empty document was displayed and users had to manually run OCR.
- When attempting to view the command list for layered commands, the list is now displayed in the results viewer for ease of reading.
- A new command, Right Shift+DOTS 1-2-3-7, toggles screen shade from a Focus braille display.
- when speech on demand is active, commands to read the next or previous word will now read continuously until stopped. Note that these are silent operations in microsoft word and outlook.
- Speech is now available when using keyboard help.
- Known bugs where the contents of some dialogue boxes would not be read, or pressing alt + shift + numpad 5 to review the contents of a table cell if speech on demand was enabled, have been resolved.
- the Convenient OCR function has been renamed to OCR Options.
- Stock Quotes Research It lookup source should now return results as expected.
- The Convert Currency Research It lookup source in the Spanish version of JAWS should now return results.
- Vocaliser expressive voices should no longer say comma before dates when navigating the Outlook calendar in Month view.
- The Customize Outlook Message List dialog box should no longer be sluggish.
