#CSUNATC20 is Still a Go for Now, though Coronavirus Concerns are Causing Many to Reconsider

As of this moment, the CSUN Assistive Technology Conference is still happening as planned, though heightened safety policies have been put in place due to the coronavirus or COVID-19, and some participants have opted not to attend.

The latest update was posted on Monday from the conference organizers and includes more information.

The 2020 CSUN Assistive Technology Conference is taking place as planned. CSUN's Center on Disabilities is continuously monitoring the Novel Coronavirus situation to ensure the safety and health of our conference participants. We are following all recommended guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in addition to state and local health departments.
We ask that anyone planning to attend that feels they may have been exposed to the Coronavirus in other travels, or who is generally feeling sick, to refrain from joining us this year for the safety of other attendees.

The notice goes on to list a variety of safety measures for participants, including a no handshake policy, keeping social distance from others, and providing sanitation stations throughout the venue.

Deque Systems, one of the conference sponsors, has posted an official message indicating they are going virtual and will not be attending the conference or hosting their reception.

We ve been debating internally for a few weeks now as myself and the collective Deque employee base has been closely monitoring COVID-19, but have decided it s in the best interest of our employees collective health and safety to back-out of our CSUN Assistive Technology Conference sponsorship

Scattered tweets from attendees have indicated that there is a growing amount of people and companies who have decided to not attend the conference, Some major tech companies have officially backed out of other conferences such as SXSW in Austin, also scheduled for march.

If you are aware of sponsors or others changing their conference plans, please let us know. This story is developing and we will post more information as it is received.
