Welcome to our first article covering the latest and greatest in Apple's new operating system. Instead of a new feature, this article covers the return of an old one, likely to be of use to all students, professionals, and anyone who writes on their phone: the return of accessible spellchecking. Read more about how to use this feature below
This is a feature I haven't seen much coverage of, and one which is of particular interest to me, so I am thrilled to be able to say that you can once again accessibly spellcheck your writing in iOS.
how to spellcheck in iOS
First, enter text in any text field in iOS, either via the qwerty keyboard, braille screen input, a braille display,, Bluetooth keyboard or by dictating your text. Then perform the rotor gesture, usually twice, until you hear "misspelled words." Swipe up or down with one finger to move to the next or previous misspelled word.
When a misspelled word is selected, swipe left or right to move between suggestions. Double tap a suggestion to accept it. If your device has haptic feedback, you will feel a strong error vibration when your text is free of recognized misspellings. A grammar checking feature would also be very useful, but the return of spellchecking provides a much appreciated improvement to iOS 14.
