Demonstration: YouTube TV

More and more Americans are cutting the cord. Yet not all of the options available are speech or magnification friendly. And in some cases your particular television market may not be able to view any local network channels. In this demonstration of YouTube TV, on Android and Windows, J.J. shows us what the service has to offer and gives us an idea on the pros and pitfalls of using access technology to view all those wonderful channels. After that, Joe asks J.J. some questions about the experience and the pair discuss some aspects of the cord cutting alternative on the iOS platform. If you find that you want to try YouTube TV out for yourself, there is a free trial, head over to the official website to learn more.

Sound Off:

From Duyahn Walker, a bit of Amazon news that eluded our grasp last week.

"Hello:

I noticed that in the Amazon music app that there's a new feature. This feature is now Alexa. When swiping to the right on the app, you will find an unlabeled button for Alexa. You have to get VoiceOver to see it. Once you do, you double tap this button and Alexa is ready to listen. However, you've got two voices fighting for attention. One is the Alexa voice, and the other is VoiceOver. When you double tap this option, VoiceOver is telling you that it is listening to you. But when you try to speak to Alexa, VoiceOver is getting in the way, and you can not issue your commands. This is a major problem. You don't want to shut VoiceOver off if you are totally blind because you need to be able to hear what your doing. Even if your low vision, your dealing with the same problem if you can't see the screen very well. I've tried to speak to the accessibility department about this issue and they don't want to file tickets to the developer's. In my personal opinion, this bothers me quite a bit."

We had a number of people write in to tell us the real identity of the Math Flash voice. For example, this guess from Beth.

Hey, listening to BBQ116 and that voice is Bob Boots. Beth

Good guess, but no. We actually had APH confirm this to us on Twitter, the true identity of the Math Flash voice is Lou Harpenau.

It feels strange not to have a big company telling us that they have new hardware to sell. However, we'll take the quiet time to focus on other matters next week. Remember, backup all your data as the next version of Windows 10 is on the way come midmonth!
