Blind Bargains Qast 53: Megabus School For The Gifted

News, a demo from Scott Davert and a nice assortment of your feedback in "Sound Off" make up the bulk of this week's program. The "Last Word" focuses on music and travel. And we have a tip in there somewhere. So sit back and relax while J.J. and Joe talk about the goings on in our community.

This week's tip is one of the simplest web shortcuts ever and will come in handy the next time you hear an annoying video while you're trying to browse a web page. Thanks to Tuukka Ojala @tuukkao for the tip.

Sound Off:

Bargain Hound: wrote in with a comment about episode 51.

"Hi, guys, great job, as always. Not only have I never had a problem explaining TTS or the screen reader concept to a sighted person, there are also quite a few TV ads featuring Siri or the android equivalent. Here is one hilarious Siri ad.

True, however, awareness can only provide a surface knowledge of how technology like TTS works. Also, a screen reader is a bit more complicated than a virtual assistant. We aren't disagreeing here, we are just noting that it's a good conversation starter for possibly more about the trials and tribulations that come with the technology we use to access computers.

Jake4252 writes in with a great observation regarding the new Google voices;

"Google still has no US male voice. All they did, was make the female voice deep so she sounds like a male."

@KyleBorah sent along a tweet to us on Twitter via @blindbargains in response to episode 52's tip.

"loved the tip about dropbox. just had that issue a fewdays ago and couldn't figure out what was going on."

lastly, from the feedback Email:

"Hi Guys,
My name is Juan. I really enjoy the show. I've been listening since serotalk and android show. Joe you sound a lot like the actor Seth Rogen. I've watched a couple of movies of him like: the Interview, Neighbors, and The End; and Seth and Joe sound alike. Even the other day my little brother came and heard the podcast for a little and asked me: "why are you listening to Seth Rogen"?
Would be cool if you cut out a clip from one of the movies and did a voice over. You could be Seth and JJ could be James Franco. Keep doing the show. "

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Juan Manuel Avila

Joe has heard this ... a lot. At Best Buy, while standing in line at the movies and last week an Uber driver told him this very thing. Joe's response, "Seth is younger than me. he's richer too. but since I'm the elder, Seth sounds like me".
