Here's a super cool way to help students create bots that can talk about various topics. From Amazon:
"Get an inside peek at the Alexa Prize, Amazon's university competition to advance AI. This year s inaugural competition focuses on the grand challenge of building a socialbot that can converse coherently and engagingly with humans on popular topics such as entertainment, politics, and sports for 20 minutes. The socialbots are works in progress, and your conversations and feedback will help students develop a more engaging AI. To try one, say: Alexa, let s chat."

If you read Amazon reviews for this Alexa skill you will find that many find the bots quite creepy. I tried telling Alexa that it was Sunday and I suspected many of my friends were attending church right now. She responded while running under this skill that this was not a nice thing to talk about and could not I think of something more polite to say about my friends. I had other such non-sequiter conversations with the social bots and conclude they have a long way to go. But if we fail to help we might have Hal from 2001 running our future so I believe helping all we can is crucial here. Talk with those bots and record your results for historical and hysterical reference. Our grandchildren might enjoy seeing how rough AI was in our time.
