Lighthouse Enchanted Hills Camp Evacuated as California Wildfires Near

The California wildfires are coming dangerously close to a popular camp for the blind.
The Enchanted Hils Camp, a recreational facility managed by the San Francisco Lighthouse, has been evacuated and the roads in the vicinity have been closed. According to a Thursday evening update from the Lighthouse:

"As of 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, all our onsite staff are safe and staying at 1155 Market Street or with friends in the greater Bay Area. Mount Veeder Road and the adjacent roads remain closed and county officials have observed a spotty pattern of fires across the mountain. Maps suggest that the fires are skirting our property, though conditions continue to change. It is likely that it will be days or even weeks before we will be allowed to inspect the condition of camp."
The death toll from the California wildfires has reached 31 and thousands of structures have been destroyed, especially in and near Santa Rosa.
"Our hearts are hurting for our friends and neighbors on Mount Veeder who have lost their homes and businesses, but we continue to band together as a community. And whatever the condition of camp turns out to be, EHC is really about the community of people who’ve made it “the place to be” for decades."
The camp has hosted numerous programs for kids and adults for the past 67 years.
"We want to assure you that the LightHouse is committed to maintaining Enchanted Hills for generations to come. Thank you to those of you who have reached out with kind words or kept us in your thoughts during these uncertain times."
We will post more information as it is made available.
