Preorders are nothing new in the landscapes of both physical and digital media. However, prior to n\this week, preorders were not possible for one of the most frequently bought commodities in the modern market. I speak, of course, of apps, and as of December 12, apple has now added preordering to the Apple AppStore for all devices.
After submitting apps to the AppStore, developers can now set a preorder page for their pending applications, with release dates between 2 and 90 days from the date the preorder goes live. Once a date is chosen and the app has been approved by apple, a page will be created on the AppStore where customers may preorder the app. After preordering, customers will be notified of the official release date of the app. Preorders are possible for both free and paid apps, however if a developer changes the price of the app between preorder and release, the customer will always pay the lower price. Customers will not be charged until they actually download the app.
