What an incredible bargain, not! I'd be curious to hear why anyone would buy it, and using rehab isn't what I'm referring too.

I agree. there really isn't that much if any reason to get an pacmate. If note taking is what you are looking for, then maybe an IPod Touch with a luetooth keyboard and or braille display is cheeper then the quoted price of the PM. Then of corse, there is the time spent getting it set up right.

Well, most likely fs is trying to get rid of the pac mate units they have before discontinuing it. Windows Mobile is a dead end. There will be no more new versions of it, and pm hardware quality has gone down the drain in the past few years. So they're reducing prices to try and sell the units they've got. Personally, I don't know why anyone would buy a notetaker anymore to begin with even if they need Braille (especially a pac mate). Get a netbook, a workstation-style case like the Targus Sport so you can just flip the case open and use it while walking, and a Bluetooth braille display with braille input keys (if that's what you like) and go. Personally, not being obsessed with having Braille everywhere and unable to afford a bt display myself, I just have the netbook, case, a bluetooth headset, running NVDA. Does the trick nicely. Total cost: around $530, and puts the notetakers to shame. Or, if you don't like that option, there's always the iPad or iPod Touch with a bt keyboard or braille display paired. A bit more than a netbook, but still considerably less than a notetaker and just as portable with the right case.
