It appears that the American Printing House for the Blind may be utilizing the code for Wayfinder Access, abandoned last year by Vodafone. According to a paper submitted to the CSUN conference in March, AviNav will offer pedestrian navigation and other features using an unnamed mobile device. Keypad entry is also hinted at, and Wayfinder Access was formerly available to users of Nokia cell phones. Similar to Wayfinder Access, the software would use a cloud-based approach to provide directional and landmark information. Additional functionality is discussed, however, including eventual plans for indoor navigation and the indication of landmarks such as tunnels or bridges in major cities. Wayfinder purchases were refunded; so what's the risk? If you are worried about the cloud, you might as well stay off the internet.
