HumanWare has announced a partnership with the Acapela Group. This partnership will bring Acapela's speech synthesis to some of HumanWare's products, such as the Victor Reader Stream and Trekker Breeze. There was no mention of the BrailleNote series in the press-release. We will update this ppost with more information when available.

I've never been too fond of Acapella's voices myself. Their American voices, in particular, don't flow well and have some odd pronunciation quirks as though they only had a vague idea of what an American accent is supposed to sound like. . Still, Humanware did need to put something better than the 11 khz Vocalizer they had on the Stream.

My major gripe with my Victor Reader Stream, is its only having two voices to choose from, and on my player, Tom is so garbled, he is difficult to understand. Why doesn't Humanware allow owners to choose voices, so that Daniel might be chosen, rather than Tom? If they are going to switch over to Acapella, will Americans have to have American voices? There are two or three very nice British voices (check them out on nextup.com)...and I would willingly pay extra to have them in my Stream, but as the other person commented, the American voices aren't exactly what I would choose. I hope Humanware takes note that both choice and clarity are needed.
