iOS 5 Will Include Element Labeling, not Require iTunes

Today's announcements of new features in the pending iOS version 5 bring some welcome improvements for VoiceOver users along with some unanswered questions. The new version will include the capability to label elements such as buttons with no textual descriptions, according to Apple's feature list for the software. Also of note, iTunes will no longer be required to update the OS, though it is unclear as of yet how accessibility might be enabled without the use of iTunes. More improvements for VoiceOver are likely to be included. If you learn of more accessibility features as it relates to Apple's announcements today, please post them n the comments.
Update: Here's a page listing VoiceOer improvements in Lion, Apple's upcoming desktop operating system. Among them is the ability to assign speech settings to various applications and a more accessible drag and drop system.

Hopefully the improvements out number the bugs right out of the box. I'm not clear on this new element labeling option, but I welcome any enhancements that make it easier for developers to create more accessible apps.
