I called customer service and was surprised how unfamiliar the customer rep was with the new victor reader. The battery from the original victor reader will not work with the new version. Unlike the original version, the new version does not come with a case. A case costs $50.00, and there will be an alternative silicone case available in the future. No price is known at this time for a spare battery. I did not ask about whether a sd card comes with the unit, as my existing 32gb card will work with the new unit.

The new Victor Reader Stream sounds like a great product, but I'm wondering if they're going to include support for books from Audible.com like the original one had?

As long as there are no NLS Bard apps for the Android or iOS, there will be a market for them. If an NLS app comes out, there would still be a market. Many blind people from my experience running a helpdesk dedicated to helping the blind would still benefit from being able to have a simple to use digital talking book solution. It's all a statistics game, and in the end, proprietary book players would still win out.

I will probably buy the new Victor. Mine has a hard life and the lack of audible doesn't bother me. I had feard Humanware was going out of the blind products biz.
