We've talked a bit already about how J.J. has used NVDA with OCR to play some games. And Joe has spoken about Xbox accessibility with Narrator. But that barely touches the surface of the types of games that are now available. Michael Feir and Jessie Anderson are on hand to talk about other forms of games access in this long-form discussion episode. The group also talks about the rise of crowd funding in the games sphere, how 3d printing is helping board gaming and how the future of games is going to involve lots of Augmented Reality.
This episode is brought to you by HumanWare.
Are you an iPhone user?
Do you get frustrated trying to type text messages or emails on the on-screen virtual keyboard?
HumanWare just announced their new Brailliant 14 braille display.
In addition to having the standard Bluetooth connection available,
this display has a second Bluetooth Low Energy module which ensures you never lose the pairing with your iPhone or other devices.
In addition you can actually use the Brailliant without any connection to an iPhone to take notes in contracted or uncontracted braille.
The innovative Brailliant Sync app, available on the app store now, allows for those notes to immediately sync to your iPhone or any other devices connected to your email account,
as soon as you pair with your phone again.
Take notes with your Brailliant 14 in a meeting, go back to your office and text someone with your phone. You will notice those notes will be magically synced with your iPhone and other devices within seconds.
The Brailliant 14. It s not just a small display. Learn more at http://www.humanware.com or by calling 800.722.3393.

The Xbox 1 and the Playstation 4 now talk with the aid of on board TTS. There is a blind player out there competing in Street Fighter tournaments.
And there are games out there with loyal Blind followings like Skullgirls and Killer instinct.
However, Joe notes that the true power of a talking video game console is more access for the parent than the player. Now you can track, limit and stay involved in the games played in the house. Both consoles, and their respective websites, allow for the purchase of content in ways not seen five years ago.

The group also discussed games that don't involve a video screen. Joe mentions he cut his teeth on problem-solving with the exploits he performed in "Dungeons And Dragons". Michael chimed in during this potion portion as well. many of the suggestions below come from his comments on table top gaming.
Open Legend RPG
Joe asked Jesse to come on board as he uses an Oculus Rift to play VR games. This style of gaming is on another upswing in the public consciousness and jesse gives us some idea of how accessible these experiences are for Blind and Low Vision players. Some of the games can be viewed on YouTube and that might be the best way to get an idea of how they play, as VR can be a costly experience otherwise.
Ric And Morty VR
Star Trek Bridge Crew
International Space Station
Resident Evil 7
