Humanware Roles out First Update for BrailleNote Touch Customers Offering Access to More Video Content, More

While some customers may still be waiting for their BrailleNote Touch to arrive, the ones who have it are now able to get a brand new update, with some major feature additions. Among the new functionality this update provides are access to the camera, louder internal volume/improved sound quality, updated video encoders and decoders for popular apps, and more.

Among the enhancements in version 1.01 are the ability to now utilized Netflix, At Bat's video content, and the BBC iPlayer video content at the highest quality available. Also included is support for braille in many apps that contain webviews, which was only supported with speech in the first iteration of the firmware.

Though the activation of the camera has taken place, and video updates have occurred, from my limited testing, it appears that Skype is still not functioning. With regard to the webview enhancement, Amazon was briefly tested, and it appears that braille is now functional in that app when working with webviews. The KNFB Reader app also does not appear to be a part of this update, though Humanware did previously indicate that this will be something that comes with an update in the fall.

The new firmware is free for existing customers, and when the BrailleNote Touch is connected to WI-fi, the user should receive a notification that an update is available. The update process took about 10 minutes for me
, though your results will vary based on your connection speed.
