Buried among the more high-tech offerings in the latest APH Annual Report is a section on a new Talking Protractor. Currently, tactile protractors can give estimated measurements of an angle. According to the report, "An optical encoder would be used to record the amount
of rotation and the readout would then be translated into degrees (and/or) radians,
which would then be reprocessed for speech output." This would enable an accurate measurement to the nearest degree. APH expects to create a new prototype for the product in 2011.
