Hims has released version 2.2 of its firmware for the BookSense line of digital book players. Included in this release is support for Epub and Openlibrary titles and the ability to adjust the media and book volume separate from speech. More info is available on the link from this post.

Nice, especially the ability to save the reading speed when reading text. I've had a question for a while though and no one's been able to answer it: why the big fuss over supporting Epub? Sure, projects like Gutenberg have Epub titles, but anything from Gutenberg is available in multiple formats. Any Epub you buy from a commercial bookstore is going to be encrypted, and none of these devices support any of the encryption and protection schemes used, so what's the big deal?
