APH has released the Braille Plus 18, the long-awaited update to their braille notetaking/PDA solution for $3,599.00 plus $40 (estimated) shipping. It will be shipped UPS ground with signature required.
The device is based on Android and includes GPS software with turn-by-turn navigation, a 5 megapixel camera with OCR capabilities, the ability to play books from NLS, Learning Ally, and other sources, a word processor, and 3G support initially for AT&T and T-Mobile. Other standard ffeatures like Wi-fi, Bluetooth, and 32GB of flash memory are also included.
The device is available now through their call center only. The website, as of the writing of this post, still shows the introductory price that was available to the APH "Ex Officio Trustees. Calling the APH toll-free number, 800-223-1839 will put you in touch with someone who can place your order.
