A new tool has been created by Bryan Smart which may open some doors for blind Windows technicians and enthusiasts. The Talking Windows 7 Pre-installation Environment is a free download which allows you to boot to Windows 7 with speech. This is most often useful for installing a new copy of the operating system, but may also aid in system troubleshooting and repair. The files can be burned to a CD or DVD or copied to a flash drive or other removable media for independent computer management and set-up. The speech is provided by the free NVDA screen reader. Essentially, one can use this tool to boot a computer with speech and then insert Windows 7 installation media to install the Operating system. Since there is the potential to format or reformat a hard drive or delete a lot of data, be sure to read everything before diving into this solution.
