$150 off the OQO Ultraportable Laptop
OQO Computers offers $150 off the model 02 of the OQO notebook in its holiday promotion. This is the computer used by GW Micro for its Small Talk Ultra. OQO's start at $1,299, and there are four models to choose from. The latest features a 32 gigabyte solid state flash drive as its primary storage. No end date on the promotion is given.
JAWS for Windows 9.0 Now Shipping
Fredom Scientific has posted the final release for JAWS 9.0. This latest version adds support for retaining HTML formatting while copying and pasting, improved support for Microsoft word, and support for the Outlook calendar, among numerous other enhancements and bug fixes.
Victor Reader Stream V1.1 Firmware Released
Humanware has released version 1.1 of the software to run the Victor Reader Stream. It's a free update and available from their website. Among the changes are support for Audible.com audio formats and many new and improved navigation commands. For example, a go to percent option will let you jump to a particular portion of a file, by percentage. A complete What's New file is linked to this post.
Office 2007 Does DAISY
Microsoft Office 2007 will soon be able to export files into the DAISY format, according to CNet. DAISY allows for easier navigation, embossing, and narration and is used by many accessible Ebook publishers including Recordings for the Blind & Dyslexic. The office extension will add a "Save as DAISY" option to some of Microsoft's applications. The new plug-in should be available sometime in early 2008.
VersaPoint Duo, Possibly for Parts, at $9.99 on EBay (expired)
An EBay seller has listed a VersaPoint Duo interpoint braille embosser with a starting bid of $9.99. Add about $45 for shipping. The unit has been tested but does not power on, according to the description. So it may be a good unit to buy for parts, though it could just be a bad circuit breaker. Auction ends November 14.
Interactive Talking Brailled U.S. Presidents Toy and Quiz for $28
BlindMiceMart.com has an interactive U.S. presidents educational toy and quiz for $28. Add about $7 for shipping. In addition to speaking facts about the American presidents and boasting a 10,000 question quiz library, the item has been adapted with braille markings to make it completely usable by the blind.

Mee Inc. offers the Victor Reader Stream for $294. With free shipping, that's $35 off retail and the lowest price we could find. This device from Humanware is compatible with the new National Library Service downloadable audiobook program as well as DAISY, MP3, WAV, OGG, and text files. Per reader requests, the Kelvin Talking Programmable Thermostat still costs $105.99 at the Patriot Supply EBay store. With about $8 for shipping, it's the lowest price we could find for a new unit. This thermostat gives voice feedback with every button and adjusts the temperature with with voice commands. Program the unit to automatically adjust the temperature for certain days of the week or times of the day. Override these settings if you go on vacation. Many other features are included.

Braille Lite M40 Notetaker at 99 Cents on EBay (expired)
An EBay seller has listed a Braille Lite Millennium 40 for a starting bid price of 99 cents. Add about $30 for shipping. The item is listed in excellent condition. This item includes a 40-cell braille display and was the model that was released before the Pac Mate family. Auction ends November 12. Update: the opening bid has skyrocketed to $995, which isn't nearly as good of a deal.
